Here’s something I’ve learned the hard way:
Everyone says create content to get clients.
But what no one says is that lazy content won’t get you any.
When I started making videos for my freelance business, I thought just showing up was enough.
People will see my ideas. They’ll reach out.
But here’s the truth:
👉 Blurry video → people assume you’re sloppy.
👉 Bad audio → people don’t take you seriously.
👉 Boring first 3 seconds → no one sticks around.
And if you’re trying to get clients, that first impression matters more than anything.
🎥 Video Quality Matters
You don’t need a fancy setup. But you do need intentionality. Gone are the days where you can get away with low quality content as a beginner.
Shoot near a window with natural light (best hack)
Use a clean background
Record with your back camera, not selfie cam
Invest in a basic mic (₹1K-₹3K) — audio > video always
When your video feels good to watch, your ideas land better. And clients remember you.
⏳ Your Hook is Everything
Clients are busy.
People scrolling are busy.
You have 2-3 seconds.
Here are hooks I’ve seen work really well:
Here’s what I learned after working with 10 clients this year - Trust and Credibility building
I used to hate sales calls. Until I started doing this - Curiosity Building
If you’re a [freelancer / brand founder], you need to know this about content - Information sharing
Why most content never converts (and how to fix it) - Negative hooks for attention
- Speak to a pain.
- Hint at a solution.
- Deliver with clarity.
That’s all!
💡 Lighting Tips I Use
Super basic, but this changed how my videos looked:
Face the window → not sideways, not backlit
Early morning or late afternoon = soft light
No overhead tube light while recording (kills the vibe)
If recording at night → small ring light or a table lamp with warm light does the trick. Always use yellow lights. They just make everything warm and cozy looking!
✨ Remember This
When your content looks thoughtful, people assume your work is too.
That’s the simple reason why improving video quality, hooks, and lighting → helps you get better clients.
Next week I’ll share how I script a video or a Reel in 10 mins when I don’t feel like creating (but still want to stay consistent).
Until then -
Keep making things. Keep learning. It compounds.
